2025
From May 30 to June 2, the HerzTakt Cultural Festival set the hearts of classical music lovers racing. Following its spectacular premiere last year, the organizer – the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association (TVB), together with initiator and artistic director Norbert Amon and the musicians – surpassed themselves this year. With events nearly sold out except for a few remaining seats, and audiences responding with enthusiasm, the festival team could not have been happier. Only the rainy weather put a slight damper on the otherwise perfect event. Instead of the music pavilion next to the parish church in Scheffau, the venue was moved to the elementary school auditorium.
“In short – it was a tremendous success, even if the rain spoiled the open-air experience,” summarizes Marcus Sappl, tourism manager of the organizer TVB Wilder Kaiser, in reference to the HerzTakt Cultural Festival. More events and no fewer than two premieres characterized the four festival days. The opening on Thursday featured the children’s theater production Piff, Paff, Puff – A Mountain Fairy Rarely Comes Alone in the elementary school auditorium. “A novelty this year, as we wanted to introduce children to the world of musical culture right from the first day. On the one hand, through this theater premiere, and on the other, through the accompanying program of the BMK Scheffau, which invited the kids to try out instruments,” explains HerzTakt initiator and artistic director Norbert Amon. In addition, thanks to the Scheffau Parents’ Association, children could slip into other roles with face painting. The association also provided cakes, coffee, and drinks. “It was a wonderful family celebration,” says Norbert Amon.
In the evening, as part of Church Meets Chamber Music, the parish church of Scheffau was transformed into a resounding concert hall. With Weber’s Clarinet Quintet and Franz Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, the string quartet Varga Quartett Wien and clarinetist Norbert Amon dedicated themselves to two major works. Thomas Lackner skillfully bridged the two milestones of Romanticism with poetry and spoken word.

Musical and Operette
On Friday evening, Scheffau native Birgit Widmann – musical star and soprano – together with acclaimed baritone Andreas Lichtenberger, brought the dazzling world of musicals to the elementary school auditorium with their outstanding voices. And on Saturday, June 1, classical soprano Martina Hetzenauer and renowned baritone Wolfgang Schwaiger thrilled the audience as two distinguished soloists. Under the title Wine, Women & Song, they presented a colorful bouquet from the world of operetta – ranging from marches, polkas, and waltzes to arias and duets.
Adding a special touch was the exceptionally harmonious ballet performance by Judith Schützeneder and Dominik Birkmayer. Pavol Varga, founder and namesake of the Varga Quartett Wien, shone with a violin solo. “Due to the rainy weather, the Operetta Night, like the chamber concert, also took place in the Scheffau parish church. Here, my sincere thanks go to the BMK Scheffau, who provided a new stage. This allowed us to make use of the gallery, and even from the very last row one had an excellent view of the musicians,” said Norbert Amon with delight.
