Pavol Varga - 1st violin
Pavol Varga was born in Slovakia in 1989 and received his first violin lessons at the age of six. After studying at the Bratislava Conservatory, he continued his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Prof. Eszter Haffner and at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) with Prof. Dalibor Karvay.
He also participated in numerous masterclasses, including the French-Czech Academy in Telč (2008), where he was awarded as the best participant under Jan Talich, the Neuberger Kulturtage (Veronika Schulz), and received further artistic inspiration from Gerhard Schulz, Benjamin Schmid, and Thomas Brandis.
Pavol Varga has taken part in various competitions, among them the International Joseph Szigeti Violin Competition and the Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition. In 2010 he won first prize at the Chamber Music Competition in Žilina (string quartet).
He is the founding member (2008) and first violinist of the Varga Quartet Vienna.
As both chamber musician and soloist, he has performed internationally on renowned stages including the Brahms Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, the Gasteig in Munich, the Teatro dell’Aquila in Fermo, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the House of Music in Moscow, among others.
He collaborates regularly with artists such as Dalibor Karvay (First Concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra), Gottfried Boisits (Vienna Philharmonic), Mario Hossen, Lilliana Kehayova, Florian Eggner, Othmar Müller, Filip Strauch, and Christopher Divine.
Since 2023, he has served as Artistic Director of the HerzTakt Festival in Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Tyrol.
