Peter Zwiebel - Viola

Peter Zwiebel studied viola at the Conservatory in Košice, at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and then with Prof. Christoph Schiller at the Basel Academy of Music. In 2021, he completed his doctorate at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.

In 2001, he became the viola leader of the European Philharmonic Orchestra on its European tour. In the same year, he founded the Zwiebel Quartet with his brother Marek Zwiebel.

He participated in the string quartet ensemble course at the Prague-Vienna-Budapest Summer Academy in Reichenau, where the Zwiebel Quartet was awarded the Thomastik Infeld Prize. The quartet also attended chamber music courses in Basel with W. Levin (La Salle Quartet) and R. Schmidt (Hagen Quartet).

From 2008 to 2016, he was a member of the Quasars Ensemble, with which he participated in prestigious festivals throughout Europe (e.g., the International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt).

Since 2004, he has been principal violist of the Slovak Chamber Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with the Slovak Philharmonic, the Slovak State Philharmonic in Košice, and the Slovak Chamber Orchestra.

He has been a member of the Varga Quartet Vienna since 2016.
